Sound Intent is the creative project of Jools, a UK-based composer, producer, guitarist, and educator whose work blends cinematic storytelling with electronic, rock, and instrumental music. Drawing inspiration from memory, emotion, science fiction, and the human experience, Sound Intent explores themes that connect imagination with personal reflection.

Biography

Beginning as a self-taught guitarist at the age of five, Jool's musical journey has spanned performance, composition, production, education, and industry development. Early experiences in church choirs and formal music education helped establish a foundation in harmony, arrangement, and musical expression that would later evolve into a distinctive creative voice. Over the years, Sound Intent has grown into a catalogue of concept albums, instrumental works, and cinematic productions that combine electronic sound design, guitar performance, orchestration, and visual storytelling.

Musical Influences

The Sound Intent sound draws inspiration from a diverse range of musical and artistic influences. Elements of cinematic composition, progressive rock, electronic music, ambient sound design, and visual storytelling combine to shape projects that place atmosphere, emotion, and narrative at their core. Influences range from the melodic storytelling of Mike Oldfield and Joe Hisaishi to the atmospheric innovation of Gary Numan, Joe Satriani, New Order, and Tears for Fears, alongside the timeless compositional approaches of Erik Satie and Karl Jenkins.

Creative Philosophy

Every Sound Intent project begins with a question. Whether imagining the dreams of travellers in cryogenic sleep, exploring the echoes of memory through ageing, or examining the fragility of human relationships, the music is designed to tell stories without imposing conclusions. The aim is not simply to entertain, but to create experiences that encourage reflection, imagination, and emotional connection.
